As born-again Christians, God lives and dwells in us through the power of the Holy Spirit. This makes it easy for us to recognize the “inner voice of God”. The scripture says, The sheep that are My own hear My voice and listen to Me; I know them, and they follow Me. John 10:27
We have the responsibility to hear and listen to the inner voice of God by getting our mind to tune in to God’s “spiritual frequency or signal”. The inner voice of God is not limited by where you live however, you must pay attention and tune in to receive what God is saying to you.
Wherever you are reading this message right now, there are a lot of radio frequencies and a lot of television signals all around you, yet you may not be receiving any of them because you are not connected or tuned in. If you were to get a radio and tune it to a frequency, you would hear what the station is saying.
Similarly, God is constantly transmitting to us. He wants to lead us and give us insight, but too often we are not tuned to His frequency. You have to pay attention to what you are feeling in your heart. God doesn’t speak to us out loud most of the time, like with Moses or other prophets in the Bible. He speaks to us through subtle things.
You may have an unrest, an uneasiness. You don’t feel good about something. That’s not just your nerves. That’s God saying something to you. It can be a prompting or a suggestion. All of a sudden, you have a desire to check on your child, to call a friend or to spend some time in prayer.
You just know something. You can’t explain it. You don’t have facts to back you up. You just know that you know; Don’t override it! Don’t talk yourself out of the signal that will help you to know things that you wouldn’t normally know.
Some people say, “That’s the universe talking to you”. I would like to add a few words: that’s the Creator of the universe talking to you. That’s your Heavenly Father. He didn’t just put you on the earth and say, “Good luck. You are on your own. I hope you make it”. No, He has given you a helper, a guide, a counsellor. (John 15:26) His Spirit lives in you. The question is, are you tuning in to everything He has to say at every moment?
RESPONDING TO THE INNER VOICE OF GOD!

During the Covid19 peak period, I felt God was leading me to resume hospital ministration, which I often do occasionally since my teenage years. So, I scheduled to resume on a Thursday, the following week. A few days later, I discovered that the Thursday was already occupied, although the current Thursday prayer meeting had not started then.
I was not ready to extend the date beyond Thursday. So I thought of going a day before the earlier scheduled day. However, I felt uneasiness in my heart, and then I thought of going on a Tuesday and felt peace and calmness in my heart. So I concluded for Tuesday!
On that faithful Tuesday evening, I ministered to a young man, who told me he had been diagnosed with a liver problem. Scheduled for a transfer to a teaching hospital on the next day which was on Wednesday. That means I wouldn’t have met him at the hospital if I were to go there on Wednesday evening!
The young man was the reason I felt uneasiness in my heart when I wanted to schedule it for Wednesday. He was also the reason I felt peace and calmness in my heart when I scheduled my visit to the hospital for Tuesday.
I prayed for him and he was miraculously healed. Even though he was transferred to the teaching hospital, the operation was no longer necessary. The swollen stomach came back to normal and the liver was healed. God knows what’s best for us. He knows what you need and when you need it. He knows how to put you in the right place, at the right time. He knows where the danger is, where the good favours are.
I could have overridden what I felt within, ignored it, listened to my mind, and thought, “If I could go on Tuesday, why should I not go there on Wednesday or any other day”. No, I have learned to trust the inner voice of God. That’s one of my strengths. I won’t go against what I’m feeling within. In my mind, it may seem confusing but if I feel good about it in my heart, I’m going to act.
On the other hand, if there is unrest and uneasiness, I don’t have peace, it can be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I’m going to pass and let it go. Don’t ignore the promptings, the impressions, the knowings. The scripture says, “Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track” Proverbs 3:6 MSG
God wants to help you in your everyday life. Not just big decisions, and I wonder how much more favour we would have, how much less frustration and heartache we would see if all through the day we would tune in to the inner voice of God and be sensitive to what we are feeling within the promptings, the suggestions, the uneasiness.
At the office, you may feel unrest toward a certain person, you have to back away. At home, you may feel a prompting to spend time with your child; you must obey. At night, you may hear that suggestion, “Turn off the TV.; go to bed, you need your rest”; you turn it off. In the kitchen, about to eat your third bowl of meal, you may hear the voice saying, “Don’t do it”, instead of saying, “Get behind me, Satan,” you walk away.
Pay attention to the inner voice of God. Don’t ignore the impressions, the promptings. God speaks to us in a still, small voice. It’s not thunder. (1 Kings 19:12-13) He is not going to boom out lightning to get your attention. He is not going to flash it across your TV screen, “My son or my daughter make sure you go and pray with the sick at the hospital on Tuesday!
If you are going to hear a whisper, you must get close. You must be tuned in. It’s got to be a priority. You are not going to hear it by accident, with the business of the day, the stress of the office, running here and there. On purpose, you have to ask yourself, “What am I feeling within me? What am I sensing”?
I pray always that God help my spiritual ears to be open and sensitive to His inner voice. “God, help me to hear what you are saying today”. It’s not that God is not speaking, it’s not that He is not giving us direction. It’s the fact that we are not always paying attention. If we will listen to everything we do and everywhere we go, God will lead us down the best path. He wants to give you wisdom, direction, protection, and guidance that will save you heartache, give you favour that will put you years ahead or restore every wasted year.
When you listen to the inner voice of God, you will come across favour and supernatural opportunities. God will give you insight into things that you had no way of knowing. You can’t explain it. You don’t have facts backing you up!
You may not have 20 years’ worth of research, but you do have the Spirit of the almighty God on the inside. You have a helper, a counsellor, a researcher, an advisor, and a protector. He is always talking; listen to the inner voice of God in you and you will hear Him!
Beloved, God wants to make your life easier. If you listen to everything you do and everywhere you go, God can save you from bad occurences, heartache, from difficulties. All of us can look back and say “I knew I was supposed to stay away from that person”. “I knew I was supposed to start eating better”. “I knew I was supposed to be more disciplined”. We ignore it, and it ends up making our life more challenging.
You know you are supposed to walk away. Don’t ignore it. Or you are about to purchase something, you are about to make some plans, and you feel that check, that uneasiness, that alarm. That’s not random. That is God talking to you.
If you will learn to listen, God can keep you from unnecessary challenges. He can keep you from danger. The scripture calls these “Promptings”.(Psalm 32:8) In other words, God is not going to force us to do it. He is going to prompt us, and then it’s up to us. “Hey, change your plans and go on Tuesday”. It’s a suggestion, a prompting. If we don’t obey it, if we just ignore it, it’s going to make it more difficult for ourselves. We will miss the blessing, the favour, and the protection that goes along with it.
I pray for the grace to always listen to the inner voice of God. May you not miss the word God has for you at every moment and every day of your life. Receive grace to make the inner voice of God a priority in your daily lives in Jesus’ Name.
The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”’ (Amen)
