There is power in our thoughts. When we dwell on negative thoughts, we are essentially rehearsing a negative script in our minds. This can lead to a cycle of negativity, affecting our actions and decisions. The scripture says, “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23
The problem with unchecked thoughts is that 47% of our cognitive time is spent on past hurts or future worries. So when thoughts contradict God’s word it becomes destructive if unchecked, dwelling on negativity invites it in and makes it reality.
Recognise when you are dwelling on negativity and acknowledge those thoughts. Then, challenge them: are they true, helpful, or aligned with God’s word? You can replace the negative thoughts with positive, uplifting ones in line with God’s word. Practice mindfulness by staying present in the moment. Doing this can shift your focus and transform your mindset. There is a need to take control of your thoughts and guard your heart.
We are often unaware of the power our thoughts hold. Nearly half of our time is consumed by negative thoughts that drain our joy, peace, and progress. We wonder why we are stuck, but it’s often the wrong thoughts that are the culprit.
Statements like “I will never get well” or “God can’t bless me” are toxic, distorting our vision and limiting our potential. “I’m not attractive” or “I’m not good enough” can be debilitating. These thoughts will dominate our lives if we don’t guard our hearts. The Bible instructs us to “bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). We must take control of our minds and fill them with hope, faith, and victory.
The enemy often uses others to plant seeds of doubt and defeat but these thoughts are powerless unless we give them attention. What people say about us doesn’t define us; what we agree with, entertain, and make comfortable does. If we are comfortable with doubt, fear, and insecurity, they will stay.
Guard your heart! Recognise negative thoughts and replace them with positive and uplifting ones. Focus on scriptures that build you up. Don’t give wrong thoughts free rein; take captive every thought that doesn’t align with God’s word.
You have the power to shape your mindset. Choose thoughts that inspire and motivate you. Surround yourself with positivity and watch your life transform. Don’t let wrong thoughts dictate your journey; take control and walk in victory!
This is what happened to Gideon in the Bible, He was hiding in the wine press, afraid of the enemy armies that surrounded their city. Then an angel showed up and called him a “mighty hero” (Judges 6:12, 14). Gideon was like, “Who, me? I’m intimidated, I’m the least in my father’s house” (Judges 6:15). He was flooded with thoughts of inadequacy and limitation. He saw himself as insignificant, but God saw him as a mighty hero.
The enemy plants lies, and if we welcome them, they become reality. Gideon’s story shows us that we have a choice. We can either believe the lies or believe God’s truth. Gideon chose to shift his mindset, and he went on to lead the Israelites to victory against all odds, becoming one of the heroes of faith.
Lies have come to us too, trying to keep our mighty hero from emerging. Who told you you are not smart enough, not good enough, or not deserving of blessings? Who told you you are not attractive or capable? Ask yourself, who told you those lies? Get rid of them! Stop feeding fears, guilt, and doubt. Feed your faith, hope, and what God says about you.
The scripture says “it’s the little foxes that spoil the vines” (Song of Solomon 2:15). Those negative thoughts might seem small, but they can destroy your peace and progress. Declare who God says you are. You are not defined by your past hurts or mistakes. You are defined by God’s promise and power.
Maybe you have been through tough times. Maybe someone hurt you, and it’s hard to let go. Don’t let those experiences dictate your future. You are not a product of your past; you are a product of God’s promise. As Isaiah 43:18-19 says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!”
YOU ARE NOT YOUR PAST!

Falling into a victim mentality can be easy, especially when you think that you are living a broken or wounded life. Dwelling on hurts, brokenness, or the past only feeds wrong thoughts. The enemy loves for you to stay stuck, nursing wounds and feeding negativity. He has got a lie ready: “You will never be whole again.” But here is the truth: the person who hurt you has concluded their part in your story. God has someone better coming.
The 10 spies in Numbers 13:32-33 came back with a grasshopper mentality, saying “we were like grasshoppers in our sight”. They had a destructive mindset, focusing on their limitations instead of God’s faithfulness. Wrong thoughts cloud vision, weaken faith, and can keep you from your destiny. Gideon’s story shows us that we have a choice. We can either believe the lies or believe God’s truth.
Guilt, shame, low self-esteem, and feeling “not good enough” are lies. God calls you a masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10), a mighty hero (Judges 6:12). You might have been through tough times, but that’s not how your story ends. God used those situations to prepare you for what is ahead. As Isaiah 43:18-19 says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!”
Developing a new mindset isn’t always easy, but it’s worth it. When negative thoughts come, challenge them with God’s word. Fill your mind with scriptures like “I am more than a conqueror” (Romans 8:37), “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13), and “I am God’s masterpiece” (Ephesians 2:10).
Come out of the past, guard your heart, and develop a new mindset. Get rid of wrong thoughts and quit letting them contaminate your life. Feed your faith, hope, and what God says about you. You are not defined by past hurts or mistakes; you are defined by God’s promise and power.
The scripture says “the Lord will fulfil His purpose for me” (Psalm 138:8). Trust that God is working everything out for your good (Romans 8:28). You are not alone, and you are not forgotten. You are loved, chosen, and empowered. So, what next? Take control of your thoughts. Win in your mind. Declare God’s truth. You are a mighty hero, a masterpiece, and a conqueror.
“The giant is too big, the sickness is too great, the addiction is too strong” – you are feeding the wrong thing! Quit accommodating doubt and welcoming fear. Get rid of that infected thinking and wrong mindset! It’s time to break free from the chains of negativity and step into the freedom God has for you.
Maybe you have been believing lies the enemy planted, feeding wrong thoughts, and welcoming insecurity and guilt. You didn’t know better, but today is your day of freedom! Get rid of those wrong thoughts poisoning your joy, attitude, and creativity. Healing, wholeness, and victory are coming!
The scripture says, “Bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). Take control of your mind and focus on what God says about you: “You are valuable, worthy, and victorious” (Ephesians 2:10, 1 Peter 2:9). Feed your faith, not your fears.
Do your part: starve that mindset and feed your faith. Declare God’s truth over your life: “I am more than a conqueror” (Romans 8:37) “I can do all things through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13) “I am God’s masterpiece” (Ephesians 2:10)
If you do this, I decree and declare: every wrong mindset is being broken, strongholds are coming down, grasshopper mentalities are leaving and wrong thoughts are clearing up. Like Gideon, you will rise higher, accomplish dreams, and become the mighty hero you were created to be, in Jesus’ name!
The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”’!
